Locating the CONTROL Resonant Save File

Your progress in CONTROL Resonant is stored locally on your PC. The save file is typically found in a dedicated folder within your user directory. To access it, open File Explorer and navigate to the following path:

Replace %USERPROFILE% with your actual username (e.g., C:\Users\YourName). The folder may be hidden, so ensure you have enabled "Show hidden files and folders" in your View settings. The save file itself is usually named with a string of numbers and characters, such as save_0.sav. This file contains all your game data, including character progression, unlocked items, and story progress.

Backing Up Your Save Data

Creating regular backups of your CONTROL Resonant save file is essential to protect against data loss due to crashes, corruption, or hardware failure. To back up your data, simply copy the entire SaveGames folder to a safe location, such as an external drive, cloud storage service like Google Drive or Dropbox, or a secondary internal drive. We recommend doing this after each major play session or before attempting any risky in-game actions. For a more automated approach, consider using third-party backup software that can schedule regular syncs of this folder.

Restoring a Saved Backup

If you need to restore your progress from a backup, first ensure CONTROL Resonant is completely closed. Then, navigate back to the SaveGames folder. Replace the current save file with your backup copy. If you are restoring a full folder backup, delete the existing SaveGames folder and paste your backup in its place. Launch the game to verify that your progress has been successfully restored. If the game fails to recognize the save, double-check that the file name and folder structure match exactly.

Managing Multiple Save Slots

CONTROL Resonant supports multiple save slots, allowing you to maintain different playthroughs or test different character builds without losing your main progress. You can manage these slots directly from the game's main menu. To manually back up a specific slot, identify the corresponding file in the SaveGames folder. Each slot typically has a distinct file. You can rename these backup files (e.g., save_0_backup.sav) to keep them organized, but remember to revert the name to the original when restoring.

Troubleshooting Save File Issues

If you encounter issues such as the game not saving, corrupted data, or the game failing to load, there are several steps you can take. First, verify the integrity of your game files through Steam. Right-click CONTROL Resonant in your library, select Properties, go to Local Files, and click "Verify integrity of game files." This can repair missing or corrupted game files. If the problem persists, check your antivirus software, as it may be blocking the game from writing to the save folder. Add an exception for the CONTROL_Resonant folder. As a last resort, you can delete the local save file and attempt to restore from a backup.
