Robot Hospice Settings Guide: Optimize Your Experience

Accessing the Settings Menu

Before diving into the specific options, you need to know how to access the settings menu. In Robot Hospice, you can open settings from the main menu before loading your save or by pressing the Esc key during gameplay. The menu is divided into several tabs: Graphics, Audio, Controls, and Accessibility.

From the main menu, simply click the "Settings" button. During gameplay, pressing Esc pauses the game and brings up a menu where "Settings" is the second option. Once you are familiar with the layout, you can quickly adjust your experience to match your preferences.

Graphics Settings

The Graphics tab allows you to tailor the visual presentation of the game. Since Robot Hospice is a 2D pixel-art game, performance is generally smooth, but adjusting these settings can help on older hardware or if you prefer a specific visual style.

Resolution

Sets the display resolution. Choose your monitor's native resolution for the sharpest image. Lower resolutions can improve performance on low-end systems.

Window Mode

Options include Fullscreen, Windowed, and Borderless Windowed. Borderless is recommended for quick alt-tabbing.

VSync

Synchronizes the frame rate with your monitor's refresh rate to prevent screen tearing. Disable it if you experience input lag.

Pixel Perfect Scaling

When enabled, the game scales the pixel art cleanly without blurring. Disable for a smoother, filtered look.

For most players, keeping Pixel Perfect Scaling enabled and setting the resolution to native will provide the best visual experience. If you encounter performance dips in areas with many interactive objects, try lowering the resolution first.

Audio Settings

The Audio settings let you control the game's soundscape. You can adjust the master volume, music, and sound effects independently. The game features a melancholic soundtrack that complements the theme of caring for beloved robots.

Consider lowering the music volume slightly if you find the emotional themes overwhelming during key story moments. This can help you focus on the dialogue and ambient sounds.

You will find sliders for Master Volume, Music Volume, and SFX Volume. There is also an option to toggle subtitles, which is useful for understanding the robots' final messages without relying solely on audio.

Controls and Key Bindings

The Controls tab displays the default key bindings and allows you to remap them. The game primarily uses mouse and keyboard, but controller support is also available. You can rebind actions like Interact, Move, and Open Inventory.

  1. Open Controls Tab

Navigate to the Controls section within the Settings menu.

  2. Select an Action

Click on the action you wish to rebind, such as "Interact" or "Menu."

  3. Press New Key

Press the desired key on your keyboard or button on your controller.

  4. Confirm Binding

The new key will be assigned immediately. Ensure there are no conflicts with other bindings.

For a more comfortable experience, consider mapping the "Interact" key to a convenient button like E or Space. If you are using a controller, the default layout is intuitive, but you can customize it in the same menu.

Accessibility Options

Robot Hospice includes several accessibility features to ensure all players can enjoy the experience. These options are found in a dedicated Accessibility tab. They are designed to help with visual, auditory, and motor impairments.

  • Screen Shake: Reduce or disable screen shake effects for motion sensitivity.
  • Colorblind Mode: Adjusts key UI elements for protanopia, deuteranopia, and tritanopia.
  • Text Size: Increase the size of dialogue and UI text for better readability.
  • Auto-Advance Dialogue: Automatically progresses through text, useful for those who cannot press buttons quickly.
  • High Contrast Mode: Enhances the contrast of interactive objects and characters.

Enabling these options can significantly improve your comfort. For example, if you find the screen shake during certain robot farewells disorienting, setting it to "Reduced" or "Off" is recommended.

Saving Your Settings

All changes made in the settings menu are saved automatically when you exit the menu. There is no need to find a "Save" button. If you ever want to revert to the default settings, there is a "Reset to Defaults" button at the bottom of each tab.

What if I change a setting and the game becomes unplayable?
If you accidentally change a setting that makes the game unresponsive, you can force close the game and restart it. The game will often revert to the last stable settings. You can also delete the configuration file from your local app data folder to reset everything.

Can I change settings during cutscenes?
No, the settings menu is locked during cutscenes to prevent interruptions. You must wait until the cutscene ends or skip it to access the menu.
