Chasing Whiskers Progression Guide – Errands & Collectibles

Understanding Progression in Chasing Whiskers

Progression in Chasing Whiskers is built around a simple but rewarding loop: you explore Catworld's interconnected areas, complete errands for Ponpon the Cat Cafe owner, and gradually unlock new regions as you help the local cat community. Unlike traditional RPGs with experience points and level gates, this cozy adventure game advances you through relationship milestones and exploration checkpoints.

The core progression path follows three parallel tracks:

  • Story Errands: Main quests given by Ponpon that advance the narrative
  • Area Unlocks: New zones become accessible as you complete key errands
  • Collectible Completion: Finding all hidden cats and souvenirs in each area

The Errand System – Your Main Progression Driver

Every errand in Chasing Whiskers falls into one of several categories, each contributing differently to your overall progress. Ponpon at the Cat Cafe is your primary quest giver, but as you explore, other cats will also request your help.

Story Errands are marked with a special icon and directly advance the main plot — finding clues about your missing cat, fixing pathways between zones, and helping Ponpon expand the cafe. Completing a story errand often unlocks the next area or introduces a new gameplay mechanic.

Side Errands are optional but valuable. These include fetching items, delivering messages between cats, and solving simple environmental puzzles. They reward you with catnip coins and souvenirs that are essential for completionists.

Daily Errands refresh each in-game day and offer repeatable tasks like watering plants in the Cat Garden or collecting fallen feathers near the Great Perch. These are the most reliable source of catnip coins for players who want to save up for special collectibles.

Unlocking Catworld's Regions

Catworld is divided into several distinct regions, each with its own visual theme and cat residents. The order you access them follows a natural gating system tied to your errand progress.

The journey typically begins in Mewnipolis, the central hub where Ponpon's Cat Cafe is located. From here, you can see other areas but cannot access them until specific errands are completed. The cafe itself serves as your home base — return here between errands to check for new quests and rest.

Early game progression focuses on unlocking the Whisker Woods and Purring Plains, two beginner-friendly zones with straightforward errands and plenty of collectibles. Most players will complete these areas within their first few sessions.

Mid-game areas like Claw Canyon and Naptime Nook require more complex errand chains and introduce environmental puzzles. These zones reward patience and exploration — some paths are hidden behind destructible objects or require specific items from earlier errands.

The late-game region, Sunbeam Summit, is only accessible after completing the majority of errands across all other zones. This area contains the most significant story revelations and the densest concentration of rare collectibles.

Collectibles and Completion Progress

Collectibles form the second major progression axis. Each region has three types of items to find:

Hidden Cats are the primary collectible. Unlike your own missing cat (the main story goal), these are Catworld residents who are hiding in playful spots throughout each zone. Finding them all in a region unlocks a special reward from Ponpon.

Souvenirs are small mementos tied to each area — a shiny pebble from Whisker Woods, a feather from Purring Plains, a claw-shaped gem from Claw Canyon. These serve no mechanical purpose but are tracked in your collection journal and contribute to 100% completion.

Catnip Coins are the currency scattered throughout the environment and earned from errands. They can be spent at Ponpon's shop on cosmetic items, furniture for the cafe, and special treats that help lure out shy hidden cats.

Your collection progress is tracked per region in the menu screen. Many players find it helpful to clear one zone completely before moving to the next, though the game never forces this approach.

Progression Tips for New Players

Based on community experience, here are the most effective strategies for smooth progression through Chasing Whiskers.

Prioritize Ponpon's story errands first — even if side errands seem more interesting. Story errands unlock new areas and features that make everything else easier. You can always return to complete side content later.

Check the Cat Cafe notice board after every story errand completion. New quests often appear immediately, and some are time-sensitive (marked with a small clock icon). Missing a time-sensitive errand may delay area unlocks by a full in-game day cycle.

Explore thoroughly before leaving a region. Catworld zones are compact but dense with hidden paths. Look for sparkling spots, suspicious bushes, and ledges that your character can climb. Many shortcuts between regions are discovered through exploration rather than errand completion.

Visit Ponpon's shop regularly. New inventory items rotate in after you complete story milestones, and some of these items are required to progress certain errand chains. Stocking up on basic supplies early saves you backtracking later.

The in-game map only shows discovered locations. If you're stuck on an errand objective, wander into unexplored corners of your current region — the item or NPC you need is often just off the beaten path.

Estimated Playtime and Milestones

Chasing Whiskers is designed as a relaxed experience, but completion times vary significantly based on playstyle.

  • Main story completion (all story errands, minimal side content): approximately 4-6 hours
  • Main story + most side errands: approximately 8-10 hours
  • 100% completion (all errands, all collectibles, all regions): approximately 15-20 hours

The game does not track playtime internally, so these estimates come from community reports. There is no New Game Plus or post-game content currently, though the developers at Five High Cats have indicated they are monitoring player feedback for future updates.

Your progression is saved automatically at checkpoints — typically after completing an errand or entering a new region. There is no manual save option, so plan your sessions accordingly.
