Overview of Unit Types in CoinPit
CoinPit throws a variety of hostile and neutral units at you as you descend deeper into its shadowy bar. Understanding each unit type is critical for building your tower stacks and surviving the coin-pushing chaos. Units range from basic grunts that rush your machine to elite entities that warp the arena itself.
Every unit you encounter has a distinct attack pattern, speed, and coin-drop behavior. Some units only appear after you spin the lucky wheel a certain number of times, while others are tied to specific floor depths. Knowing what you face helps you decide when to shake the machine or prioritize upgrades.
Unit types are randomly seeded each run, but certain elite enemies only appear after you have unlocked specific progression milestones. Check the Progression Guide for details on unlock conditions.
Basic Enemy Units
Basic enemies are the most common threat in the early floors. They move directly toward your coin tower and attempt to knock coins off the edge. If they succeed, you lose potential resources. Here are the three main basic types:
Rusty Grunt
A slow, armored unit that pushes coins with a steady rhythm. It takes two hits to stun but drops a bronze coin stack when defeated. Best handled by stacking tall towers early.
Shade Wisp
A fast, translucent unit that phases through small gaps. It targets your most valuable coin pile and tries to scatter it. Use wide towers to block its path.
Glimmer Rat
A tiny, swarming unit that appears in groups of three. Individually weak, but they can overwhelm your defenses if you ignore them. They drop silver coins on death.
Basic units scale in health and speed as you progress deeper. Always keep at least one defensive upgrade slotted before floor five.
Elite Enemy Units
Elite units are rare spawns that appear after you have triggered the lucky wheel three times in a single run. They have unique mechanics and require specific counter-strategies. Defeating an elite rewards you with a permanent upgrade token.
Identify the Elite
Elites glow with a distinct red aura and are larger than standard units. They also appear with a screen shake warning.
Prioritize Stun Upgrades
Use the Upgrades Guide to equip stun enhancements. Elites cannot be knocked back by standard coin pushes.
Exploit Weakness
Each elite has a three-second vulnerability window after using its special attack. Time your tower shake during this window.
The most common elite is the Brass Brute, which charges your machine and scatters all coins on the left side. Another is the Cog Witch, who reverses your coin-pushing direction for ten seconds. Both require you to adapt your tower layout on the fly.
Neutral and Friendly Units
Not every unit is hostile. Some entities wander onto your machine and provide buffs or resources if you interact correctly. These are called neutral units.
Coin Moth
A glowing insect that circles your tallest tower. If you let it land, it doubles the coin value of that tower for the next five pushes. Do not attack it.
Bar Keeper
A rare friendly unit that appears after you survive a wave without losing any coins. It offers you a free spin of the lucky wheel. Always accept.
Shiny Drifter
A wandering orb that moves between towers. If you guide it to the center of your machine, it explodes and drops a pile of gold coins. Use careful tower placement to funnel it.
Neutral units despawn if you shake the machine aggressively. Practice restraint when you spot one on the field.
Unit Type FAQ
How do I know which unit type is coming next? The game shows a small icon above the spawn gate before each wave. A red skull icon means an elite is inbound. A green leaf icon signals a neutral unit.
Can I capture enemy units and make them friendly? No. CoinPit does not have a capture mechanic. You can only stun or destroy hostile units. Friendly units are random spawns you cannot control.
Do unit types change between runs? The pool of basic and elite units remains the same, but their spawn frequency and combinations vary. Some runs may feature more Shade Wisps, while others are heavy on Glimmer Rats. Adapt your strategy each run.
Are there boss units? Yes. Boss units are unique entities that appear every ten floors. They have massive health pools and require you to use the lucky wheel to weaken them. See the Boss Guide for detailed strategies.
