Overview of Elite Enemies

In Hold Your King, elite enemies are formidable adversaries that appear in specific stages, posing a greater threat than standard foes. Unlike regular enemies, these units have unique attack patterns, increased health, and special abilities designed to separate you from your royal charge. Understanding their behavior is crucial for a successful escort. This guide covers all known elite enemy types, their mechanics, and strategies to neutralize them.

The Boulder Knight

The Boulder Knight is a heavily armored enemy that rolls a massive stone ball down a narrow corridor. Its primary threat is the ball's momentum, which can knock the King off your platform or crush both players.

• Pattern: The Knight will telegraph its attack by shaking the ground for two seconds before releasing the boulder. The ball travels in a straight line.
• Counter: Use the environment. Stand behind a pillar or a reinforced wall. Alternatively, both players can time a coordinated jump to let the boulder pass underneath the King.
• Tip: If you have a shield upgrade, one player can activate it to deflect the boulder, stunning the Knight and leaving it vulnerable for a few seconds.

The Shadow Assassin

This stealthy elite appears from the shadows, targeting the player carrying the King. It attacks with a quick lunge that can cause you to drop the monarch.

• Pattern: The Assassin will disappear and reappear in a puff of smoke, indicated by a faint purple glow on the ground. It lunges after a 1.5-second delay.
• Counter: Keep moving. Do not stand still. When you see the purple glow, the carrier should immediately pass the King to their partner. The Assassin's lunge will miss, leaving it exposed.
• Tip: Use the "Swap" ability (if unlocked) to instantly trade positions with your partner, confusing the Assassin's targeting.

The Flame Juggernaut

A slow but devastating elite that spews a cone of fire. The Flame Juggernaut is often found on bridges or narrow walkways.

• Pattern: The Juggernaut will stop moving, plant its feet, and release a continuous flame for 4 seconds. The fire covers a 90-degree arc in front of it.
• Counter: Do not attempt to run through the fire. Wait for the flame to subside, or use a platform above or below to bypass it. One player can act as a distraction by running to the opposite side.
• Tip: The fire can be blocked by the "Stone Wall" environmental object. If none are available, use a Fire Resistance Potion (found in chests) to pass through unscathed.

The Gravity Mage

This elite uses spatial magic to alter gravity, making the King float or become incredibly heavy, hindering your movement.

• Pattern: The Mage creates a blue or red aura. Blue makes the King float, reducing your control. Red makes him heavy, slowing your movement speed by 50%.
• Counter: Focus fire on the Mage. Its health is low. One player should rush it while the other manages the King. If the King floats, hold him close to the ground to prevent him from drifting into traps.
• Tip: The Gravity Mage is immune to physical attacks while casting. Wait for the cast to finish, then strike. A well-timed stun grenade can interrupt its spell.

General Strategies for Elite Encounters

Facing elite enemies requires coordination and preparation. Always be aware of the arena layout. Most elite encounters have environmental hazards you can use to your advantage, such as spikes, pits, or explosive barrels.

• Communication: Call out the enemy's telegraph. "Boulder incoming!" or "Assassin on me!" are essential calls.
• King Management: The player not holding the King should be the primary aggressor against elites. The carrier should focus on positioning and survival.
• Upgrades: Prioritize upgrades that provide crowd control or defensive buffs before entering a known elite zone. The "Iron Grip" upgrade is invaluable for preventing the King from being dropped.
