Wordrix Save File Guide: Location, Backup & Management

Wordrix Save File Location

The Wordrix save file is stored locally on your PC. By default, the game saves your progress to the following directory:

C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\LocalLow\TacticalCodeworks\Wordrix\

Inside this folder, you will find a file named save.dat (or a similarly named save slot file). This single file contains all your campaign progress, daily challenge records, and unlocked achievements.

If you are using a different installation drive or a custom Windows user folder, the path remains relative to your user directory. The AppData folder is hidden by default, so you may need to enable "Show hidden files and folders" in File Explorer to navigate to it.

How to Back Up Your Save File

Backing up your Wordrix save is straightforward and recommended before attempting any mods or system reinstallation.

  1. Locate the save folder

Navigate to C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\LocalLow\TacticalCodeworks\Wordrix\ using File Explorer.

  2. Copy the save file

Select save.dat (or the entire folder) and copy it (Ctrl+C).

  3. Paste to a safe location

Paste the file into a backup folder on your desktop, external drive, or cloud storage (e.g., OneDrive, Google Drive).

For extra safety, you can also create a compressed (ZIP) archive of the entire Wordrix folder and store it with a date stamp, e.g., Wordrix_Backup_2026-06-10.zip.

How to Restore a Save File

If you need to restore your progress after a system wipe or game reinstall, follow these steps:

  1. Install and launch Wordrix once

Run the game at least once so it creates the default save folder structure.

  2. Close the game entirely

Make sure Wordrix is not running in the background (check Task Manager if needed).

  3. Replace the save file

Navigate to the save folder and paste your backed-up save.dat file, overwriting the existing one.

  4. Launch the game

Start Wordrix and verify that your progress, including campaign levels and daily challenge streaks, has been restored.

Always close Wordrix completely before modifying save files. Editing or replacing the save while the game is running can cause data corruption or loss of progress.

Save File Contents and What Is Stored

The Wordrix save file stores the following data:

  • Campaign progress: Unlocked levels, completed phrases, and star ratings for each difficulty tier.
  • Daily challenge history: Your streak count, last completion date, and highest score.
  • Settings and preferences: Graphics options, audio levels, and key bindings (if any are saved locally).
  • Unlockables: Any cosmetic or gameplay unlocks tied to progression.

The save file is not encrypted and is stored in a plain binary format. However, direct editing is not recommended as it may corrupt your data. Always keep a backup before attempting any manual modifications.

Wordrix does not currently support cloud saves via Steam Cloud. All save data is stored locally. If you play on multiple PCs, you will need to manually transfer your save file between machines.

Transferring Saves Between PCs

To continue your Wordrix progress on another computer:

  1. On your old PC, back up the save.dat file as described above.
  2. Transfer the file via USB drive, email, or cloud storage.
  3. On the new PC, install Wordrix and launch it once.
  4. Close the game and replace the newly created save.dat with your backup.
  5. Launch the game again to confirm all progress is intact.

If you frequently switch between devices, consider using a cloud sync service (like OneDrive or Dropbox) and creating a symbolic link to your save folder. This automates the backup process.

Troubleshooting Save Issues

If you encounter problems with your Wordrix save file, try these common fixes:

  • Save not loading: Ensure the file is in the correct folder and that the game is fully updated. Verify game files via Steam if necessary.
  • Corrupted save: Restore from your most recent backup. If no backup exists, you may need to start a new game.
  • Progress lost after update: Check if the update changed the save file format. In rare cases, older saves may be incompatible. Check the patch notes for any save-related changes.
