Default Keyboard & Mouse Controls

Crownseeker is a single-player survival RPG played exclusively on PC. The default controls are optimized for keyboard and mouse, giving you precise command over your relic hunter's every move. Below is the complete list of default keybinds.

Combat Controls & Techniques

Mastering combat in Crownseeker requires more than just clicking. The fog-shrouded world is filled with aggressive creatures that react to sound, light, and movement. Here is how each control layer works in a fight.

Melee Combat — Use W/A/S/D to circle enemies while holding Left Mouse Button for a charged strike. Tap Left Mouse for quick jabs. Right Mouse Button raises your shield or weapon to block incoming damage. Blocking costs stamina but reduces damage significantly.

Ranged Combat — Equip a crossbow or throwing knife. Left Mouse Button fires your projectile. Hold Right Mouse Button to zoom in slightly for better accuracy. Press R to reload. Ranged attacks are quieter than melee, making them ideal for nighttime stealth.

Dodge & Positioning — Press Q to perform a short dodge roll. This has invincibility frames (i-frames) at the start. Time your dodge just as an enemy lunges to avoid damage completely. Dodging costs stamina, so manage it carefully — if your stamina runs out, you cannot sprint or block.

Using Consumables Mid-Combat — Assign food, bandages, or buff potions to the F quick-slot via the inventory screen. Press F to use the assigned item instantly. You can change the quick-slot item at any time by opening the item wheel (I) and selecting a different consumable.

Movement & Exploration Controls

Exploration is the heart of Crownseeker. You must traverse a large, fog-shrouded map to find relics. These movement controls will help you cover ground efficiently.

Sprinting — Hold Left Shift to sprint. This doubles your movement speed but increases hunger drain by 50%. Use sprint only when you are confident you can find food soon, or when fleeing from a dangerous encounter.

Crouching — Press Left Ctrl to crouch. While crouched, you move slower but make almost no sound. This is critical for sneaking past sleeping enemies or approaching relics guarded by patrolling creatures.

Climbing — When you see a low wall, rock, or debris, walk toward it and press Space. Your character will automatically vault over obstacles up to waist height. Higher ledges require you to find a ramp or alternate path.

Swimming — Water does not block your movement. Simply walk into shallow water to wade through. Deep water slows you to a crawl and drains stamina. Avoid swimming unless absolutely necessary — some creatures lurk beneath the surface.

Inventory & Item Management

Efficient inventory management is vital for survival. Crownseeker uses a grid-based inventory system similar to classic survival games. Here is how the controls work.

Opening Inventory — Press Tab to open the full inventory screen. Here you see your equipped gear, backpack slots, and hunger/health meters. You can drag and drop items with the mouse to rearrange them.

Quick-Access Item Wheel — Press I to open the radial wheel. This shows up to six quick-slots. Click on any slot to assign an item from your inventory. Once assigned, you can use that item with the F key without opening the wheel again.

Equipping Gear — In the inventory screen, left-click a weapon, armor piece, or accessory. Drag it to the corresponding equipment slot (head, chest, legs, weapon, off-hand). Stats update instantly. You can also right-click an item to equip it automatically if the slot is empty.

Dropping Items — Left-click an item in your inventory and drag it outside the grid window. A confirmation prompt appears. Dropped items remain on the ground for a short time, so you can pick them up again if you change your mind.

Customizing Controls & Advanced Tips

Crownseeker allows full key rebinding. You can tailor the controls to your playstyle, whether you prefer a traditional WASD setup or something more unique.

How to Rebind — Open the main menu (Esc), go to Settings, then the Controls tab. Click on any action (e.g., "Dodge") and press the new key you want to assign. The game supports all standard keyboard keys, mouse buttons, and mouse wheel clicks. You cannot bind controller inputs because Crownseeker does not have native controller support.

Recommended Rebinds for Combat — Many players rebind Dodge (Q) to a mouse thumb button if available. This keeps your left hand free for movement while your right hand controls evasion. Others swap Interact (E) and Use Consumable (F) so that F is easier to reach during frantic fights.

Stamina Management — Your stamina bar is displayed just above your health. Every action except walking consumes stamina: sprinting, dodging, blocking, and heavy attacks. If stamina hits zero, you cannot sprint or dodge until it regenerates. Wait a few seconds while walking to recover.

Hunger & Night Cycle — Hunger depletes over time and faster when you sprint or fight. Eat food using F or from the inventory. If hunger reaches zero, you take damage over time. Night lasts approximately 5 real-time minutes. Use the night to explore carefully — enemies are stronger, but relics are easier to spot by their glow.

Frequently Asked Questions About Controls

Can I use a controller? No. Crownseeker is designed for keyboard and mouse only. There is no controller support at launch. The developer has not announced plans to add it.

How do I reload my crossbow? Press R. Your character will automatically reload if you have ammunition in your inventory. Reloading takes about two seconds and leaves you vulnerable — do it behind cover.

Why can't I sprint? Your stamina might be depleted, or you might be overencumbered (carrying too many items). Check your inventory weight. Drop non-essential items to restore full movement speed.

Is there a way to zoom the camera? No, Crownseeker uses a fixed third-person camera. You cannot zoom in or out. However, holding Right Mouse Button with a ranged weapon gives a slight zoom effect for aiming.

How do I use the lore journal? Press L to open your lore journal. This collects notes, letters, and environmental clues you find. Reading them can reveal hidden relic locations and backstory. The journal does not pause the game, so find a safe spot first.
