Hellbridge Demo Gear Guide - Weapons, Armor, and Relics

Understanding Gear Tiers and Rarity

In Hellbridge Demo, your survival depends on the gear you equip. Each run presents opportunities to find, upgrade, and synergize weapons, armor, and relics. Gear is divided into four rarity tiers: Common (white), Uncommon (green), Rare (blue), and Epic (purple). Higher rarity gear has better base stats and more modifier slots.

Gear drops from defeated enemies, chests scattered across the bridge, and as rewards for completing wave milestones. The later you survive in a run, the higher the chance of finding Rare and Epic items. For a complete overview of the game's systems, check our Progression Guide.

Always prioritize equipping the highest rarity gear you find, even if its base stats are slightly lower than a lower-tier item. The extra modifier slots provide more opportunities for powerful synergies later in the run.

Weapon Types and Their Roles

Weapons are your primary source of damage. Each weapon type has a unique attack pattern and special ability. You can equip one primary weapon and one secondary weapon at a time. Switching between them during combat is instant.

Swords

Balanced melee weapons with moderate speed and damage. Their special ability, "Sweeping Strike," hits all enemies in a wide arc. Ideal for clearing groups of weaker enemies.

Axes

Slow but powerful melee weapons. The "Crushing Blow" ability deals massive single-target damage and staggers larger foes. Best for taking down elite enemies and mini-bosses.

Staves

Ranged magic weapons that fire projectiles. The "Arcane Burst" ability creates an area-of-effect explosion. Excellent for kiting enemies and controlling crowds from a distance.

Shields

Defensive weapons that block incoming damage. The "Shield Bash" ability stuns enemies and breaks their guard. Essential for tanky builds that focus on survival.

Armor Sets and Set Bonuses

Armor provides defensive stats and often comes in sets. Equipping multiple pieces from the same set grants powerful set bonuses. There are three armor slots: Helm, Chestplate, and Greaves. Each piece can have its own modifiers.

A full set of three pieces grants the maximum set bonus, but mixing pieces from different sets can also be effective if you need specific stats. For example, the "Infernal Guard" set increases fire resistance and grants a chance to ignite attackers, while the "Soul Reaper" set boosts health steal and damage against cursed enemies.

  1. Collect set pieces

Focus on completing one set at a time. Check the gear icon in the inventory to see which set a piece belongs to.

  2. Activate the bonus

Equip two pieces for a minor bonus, or three pieces for the full effect. The bonus is displayed in the armor tooltip.

  3. Mix and match

If you have a powerful Rare piece from one set and a strong Epic piece from another, consider a hybrid setup for better overall stats.

Relic Slots and Modifiers

Relics are special items that provide passive bonuses and unique effects. You have three relic slots, and each relic can have up to two modifiers. Modifiers are randomized stats like "+10% Critical Hit Chance" or "+15% Fire Damage."

Relics are found in special chests guarded by elite enemies or as rare drops from bosses. You can reroll a relic's modifiers at the Forge between waves, but this costs Soul Shards, a currency earned by defeating enemies. Learn more about resource management in our Currency Guide.

  • Equip relics that complement your weapon choice
  • Reroll poor modifiers at the Forge
  • Prioritize relics with synergistic set bonuses

Optimizing Your Build

The key to a successful run in Hellbridge Demo is synergy between your weapon, armor, and relics. A fire-based build might combine a Staff with fire projectiles, the Infernal Guard armor set, and relics that boost fire damage and ignite chance. A tank build might use a Shield, the Soul Reaper set for health steal, and relics that increase armor and block chance.

Experiment with different combinations each run. The game's roguelike nature encourages trying new strategies. For more build ideas, see our Builds Guide.

What happens if I find a duplicate gear piece?
Duplicate gear can be salvaged at the Forge for crafting materials. These materials are used to upgrade the rarity of your existing gear, making it more powerful. Salvaging is a core part of the progression loop.

Can I keep gear between runs?
No, gear is reset at the start of each run. However, you unlock permanent upgrades and new gear pools through the Cursed Gate progression system. Check our Progression Guide for details on account-wide unlocks.
