The Pyromancer excels at area-of-effect (AoE) damage. Her starting spell, 'Inferno Blast,' ignites a large area, dealing continuous damage to groups of enemies. She scales incredibly well with any spell that applies burn or increases fire damage. Her passive, 'Heat Surge,' increases her attack speed as enemies burn, allowing for massive damage output during dense waves. The main weakness is a lack of mobility, but her raw power more than compensates.

The Paladin is the best defensive character in the game. His starting ability, 'Holy Ward,' creates a temporary barrier that absorbs damage and heals nearby allies (or yourself in single-player). He can tank hits that would one-shot other characters. His passive, 'Sacred Ground,' deals damage to enemies that hit him, making him excellent against melee rushers. He is the safest pick for new players learning enemy attack patterns.

The Storm Weaver is a high-skill, high-reward character focused on lightning spells. His 'Chain Lightning' starter can bounce between multiple enemies, clearing waves faster than almost any other hero. His passive, 'Static Field,' slows enemies that get too close. The Storm Weaver requires precise positioning to maximize his damage, but in the hands of an experienced player, he is the fastest wave clearer in the game.

The Shadow Blade is a melee assassin with incredible single-target damage. His 'Shadow Strike' teleports him behind an enemy, dealing critical damage and applying a bleed effect. He excels at eliminating high-priority targets like elite demons and mini-bosses. However, his low health pool makes him risky against large groups of enemies if you are not careful with your dodges.

The Cryomancer is a control specialist. His 'Freeze Wave' spell can stop entire groups of enemies in their tracks, giving you breathing room during chaotic sieges. His passive, 'Frost Armor,' reduces damage taken from frozen enemies. While his damage is lower than S-Tier picks, his crowd control is invaluable for managing the later waves where enemy density is highest.

The Ranger is a safe, consistent damage dealer. Her 'Piercing Shot' can hit multiple enemies in a line, and her 'Hunter's Mark' passive increases damage against a single target over time. She is effective at all ranges and has a good balance of wave clear and boss damage. She is a solid pick for any situation.

The Berserker is a pure melee brawler. His 'Fury Swings' ability deals high damage in a cone in front of him, and his passive increases his attack speed as his health decreases. He is a glass cannon who requires aggressive play and perfect dodging. He can be fun to play but is less consistent than the Paladin or Pyromancer.

The Necromancer summons skeletons to fight for him. His 'Raise Dead' ability creates temporary minions that distract enemies and deal minor damage. His passive, 'Soul Leech,' heals him when his minions land hits. While his playstyle is unique, his damage output is often too slow compared to other characters, and his minions can be killed quickly by area-of-effect attacks from bosses.

The Warden is a support-oriented character. His 'Healing Aura' restores health over time to himself and allies. His passive 'Guardian's Bulwark' provides a small damage reduction to everyone nearby. In single-player, his self-sustain is decent, but his lack of damage makes runs take much longer than with other characters.

The Spellblade attempts to mix melee attacks with magic. His 'Arcane Slash' ability deals moderate damage, but his passive, 'Mana Flow,' is difficult to maintain effectively. He is outclassed by both the Pyromancer for magic damage and the Shadow Blade for melee damage. He feels like a jack of all trades but a master of none.

The Vagabond is the starter character with no unique abilities. His 'Basic Attack' has no special effects, and his passive is a minor stat boost. He is a blank slate. While you can win with him if you draft excellent spells, he provides no inherent advantage. We recommend unlocking any other character as soon as possible.
