MECCHA CHAMELEON offers several ways to play with others. The core experience revolves around one player seeking while others hide, but the available modes change how you connect and compete.

Public Match is the standard mode. You queue up alone or with friends and get placed into a lobby with random players. The game automatically assigns roles: one Seeker and multiple Hiders (Chameleons). Matches are fast-paced, typically lasting 2-4 minutes per round.

Private Lobby lets you create a custom game for you and your friends. You can set the map, round time, and even choose who starts as the Seeker. This is the best way to practice strategies or play with a specific group without random interruptions.

Streamer Mode is a unique feature designed for content creators. It adds a delay to the spectator camera and hides player names, preventing stream sniping. This mode ensures fair play while broadcasting on platforms like Twitch or YouTube.

The Chameleon's Playbook: Hiding Strategies

As a Chameleon, your goal is to survive until the timer runs out. Your primary tool is your paintbrush, which lets you copy colors from the environment.

Painting and Positioning

When the round starts, immediately find a spot with a complex texture or pattern. Stand still and use your paint action to match your body to the background. Pay attention to lighting and shadows—a flat color on a textured wall will give you away.

Movement and Distraction

If the Seeker gets close, stay completely still. Your camouflage is your best defense. However, if you are spotted, use a quick dash to relocate. After moving, find a new spot and repaint immediately.

You can also use the environment to your advantage. Some maps have interactive elements like moving platforms or doors. Triggering these can create noise and distract the Seeker, giving you a chance to slip away.

The Seeker's Strategy: Finding Hidden Players

The Seeker has a limited time to find and tag all Chameleons. Your success depends on observation and systematic searching.

Visual Scanning Techniques

Train your eyes to look for inconsistencies. A Chameleon's paint job is rarely perfect. Look for:

• Slight color mismatches between a player and the background.
• Unnatural angles or shapes that don't fit the environment.
• Movement—even a tiny twitch can reveal a hider.

Using Abilities

The Seeker has a special ability called "Scan." This ability highlights any player who has moved or painted in the last few seconds. Use it sparingly, as it has a cooldown. The best time to scan is after a period of silence, when Chameleons might feel safe enough to reposition.

Advanced Multiplayer Tactics

Once you understand the basics, you can employ more advanced tactics to dominate the lobby.

Teamwork as Hiders

In public matches, you cannot directly communicate, but you can still work together. If you see a fellow Chameleon about to be caught, you can make a deliberate noise or movement in the opposite direction to draw the Seeker away. This sacrificial play can save your team and secure a win.

Mind Games

Both roles can use psychological tricks. As a Chameleon, pretend to be a part of the scenery by mimicking the idle movements of nearby objects (e.g., a swaying plant). As a Seeker, fake a search in one area, then quickly turn around to catch a player who thought they were safe.

Game Modes and Customization

MECCHA CHAMELEON includes a few variations on the core hide-and-seek formula.

Timed Survival: The standard mode. The Seeker wins by tagging everyone; the Chameleons win if at least one survives the timer.

Last Chameleon Standing: A more intense mode where each tagged Chameleon is eliminated permanently. The round only ends when the last hider is caught or the timer expires. This mode rewards extreme caution.

Custom Game Settings: In private lobbies, you can adjust:

• Round timer (30 seconds to 5 minutes)
• Number of Seekers (1 or 2)
• Map selection
• Paint cooldown speed

Frequently Asked Questions About Multiplayer

How do I invite friends? Use the Steam overlay. Open your friends list, right-click a friend, and select "Invite to Game." They must be on your friends list to receive the invite.

Can I play cross-platform? No. MECCHA CHAMELEON is currently only available on PC via Steam. Cross-platform play is not supported.

Is there a ranked mode? No ranked mode is available at launch. The developers, lemorion_1224, have not announced plans for one. All multiplayer is casual.

What happens if I disconnect? If you disconnect during a match, you will be removed. You can rejoin a new public match or reconnect to a private lobby if the host re-invites you.

Can I change my character's appearance? Your Chameleon's color is purely based on painting. There are no cosmetic skins or unlocks for your character model in the current version.
